  ROAD SAFETY

All towns have a 60kmph speed limit. You first get the 80 sign then the 60 sign shortly after it.  At the end of the town the 60 with a line through it shows that you may travel at what you consider a safe speed (taking into account the conditions of the road and the quality of the vehicles around you.  Many vehicles can travel 160, but please remember most locals don't go over 80). Outside towns the speed is not policed but in towns the speed limits are well policed.

It is not advisable to drive at night in Mozambique (traffic, animals, pot holes) and you should avoid doing so at all costs.

As you leave Maputo the two lane road does often become a six lane road. Don't try and fight it, just relax and go with the flow. People overtake in the smallest of gaps, you may not even see it as a gap. There is not really a right way and a wrong way to drive through this section of road.
